Yukon Nominee Program (YNP) – Skilled Workers

The Yukon Nominee Program allows the Government of Yukon to satisfy the province’s current economic and labour market needs or conditions by nominating foreign individuals who intend to immigrate to Canada and are likely to settle successfully in the province.

There are currently 3 programs in which applicants may apply through the Yukon Nominee Program including:

  • Skilled Worker Program;
  • Critical Impact Worker Program;
  • Business Program.

 

Skilled Worker Program

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Proposed employer must be a registered business, industry association or a local, municipal, First Nation or Territorial government in Yukon that has been registered and operational for at least 1 year
  • Excluding positions included in the Skills Shortage List, proposed employer must provide evidence to verify that there is a need for that particular position and effort has been previously made to recruit locally or nationally

The job offer must:

  • Be a permanent or full-time position
  • For a trade or skill that is categorized as skill levels O, A or B of the National Occupational Classification Matrix
  • Not conflict with current collective bargaining agreements
  • Complies with the minimum requirements of territorial labour standards and offers comparable wage rate of the industry

The applicant must:

  • Have received the certification or accreditation necessary for the trade or position
  • Have a license or must be accepted by the Territorial authoritative body for the occupation or trade (if applicable)
  • Not be a refugee claimant

Critical Impact Worker Program

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Employer must be a either a registered business, industry association or a local, municipal, First Nation or Territorial government located in Yukon and must have been registered and operational for at least 1 year
  • Employer must provide evidence that there is a prevalent need for the proposed position and efforts were previously made to recruit nationally or locally

The job offer must:

  • Be a permanent or full-time position
  • For a trade or skill that is categorized as skill level C or D of the National Occupational Classification Matrix and may usually require a secondary school education and/or job specific training or on-the-job training
  • Not conflict with current collective bargaining agreements
  • Complies with the minimum requirements of territorial labour standards and offers comparable wage rate of the industry

The applicant must:

  • Have received previous relevant work experience for the specific trade or position
  • Possess a temporary work permit and must have been occupied in that position for 6 months OR have obtained a score of 45 or better on the Pre-Assessment
  • Have access to sufficient financial capital or settlement support in Yukon
  • Not be a refugee claimant
  • Have the ability to communicate in either French or English (depending on workplace’s official language)
