Prince Edward Island PNP Business Immigration

The Prince Edward Island Provincial Nominee Program is a program established by the government to present opportunities that come with living in Prince Edward Island to its newcomers. The Business Impact Category of the PEI PNP seeks interested business individuals with a vision, leadership skills and a willingness to contribute to the economy of PEI.

The following are the 3 streams from which you may qualify under the Prince Edward Island Provincial Nominee Program:

  1. 100% Ownership Stream
  2. Partial Ownership Stream
  3. Work Permit Stream

100% Ownership Stream

Requirements:

  • Complete and submit all necessary Federal and Provincial PNP forms and supplemental documents
  • Be between the ages of 21 to 59 during the time of the application
  •  Achieve a high-school education or equivalent
  •  Acquired relevant management skills from past employment
  • Score a minimum band score of 4.0 on the IELTS within the past 2 years
  • Demonstrate a comprehensive business proposal that represents 100% business ownership in an eligible sector and meets all program conditions set at the time of the application
  • Must participate actively in the management of the business within PEI at a continuous basis
  • Sign an escrow agreement guaranteeing a deposit of $200,000 to be submitted to the Province until all conditions of the agreement have been accomplished
  • Invest a minimum of $150,000 in a new or current PEI based business while abiding to the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act

Priority Sectors

Priority will be given to applications that comprise the following:

  •  The establishment or expansion of an export-based business
  • Business that employ primary sector resources from agriculture, fishery and forestry
  • Businesses that promote the diversification of rural communities in PEI
  • Businesses that advance developing innovate sectors including bioscience, information technology, aerospace and renewable energy

Ineligible Businesses:

Application will NOT be accepted for the following business:

  • Bed and breakfasts, hobby farms (see definitions) and home-based businesses
  • Pay day loan, cheque cashing, money changing and cash machine businesses
  • Pawnbrokers
  • Sale of used goods (excluding collectibles, or where the business provides value-added services such as repairs, refurbishing, or recycling)
  • Real estate development/brokerage, insurance brokerage or business brokerage
  • Businesses started for the sole purpose of gaining access to immigrant investment through the program
  • Professional practices
  • Financial services
  • Consulting services
  • Any other type of business that by association would tend to bring the program or the Government of Prince Edward Island into disrepute.
  • An entity that cannot issue shares

Partial Ownership Stream

The Partial Ownership Stream is best for applicants who intend to relocate to PEI and become a part owner of a business

Applicants under the Partial Ownership Stream must:

  • Complete and submit all necessary Federal and Provincial PNP forms and supplemental documents
  • Be between the ages of 21 to 59 during the time of the application
  • Achieve a high-school education or equivalent
  • Acquired relevant and transferable management skills from past employment
  • Must have legally attained a minimum authorized personal net worth of $600,000 through legitimate sources in their own right
  • Score a minimum band score of 4.0 on the IELTS within the past 2 years
  • Demonstrate      a comprehensive business proposal that represents 100% business ownership in an eligible sector and meets all program conditions set at the time of the application
  • Must participate actively in the management of the business within PEI at a continuous basis
  • Sign an escrow agreement guaranteeing a deposit of $200,000 to be submitted to the Province until all conditions of the agreement have been accomplished
  • Invest a minimum of $150,000 in a new or current PEI based business for a partial ownership interest of at least 33 1/3% of voting shares or make a $1  million dollar investment while abiding to the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act

Work Permit Stream Criteria

The Business Impact Category of the PEI PNP seeks interested business individuals with a vision, leadership skills and a willingness to contribute to the economy of PEI.

In order to qualify under the Work Permit Stream, applicants must adhere to the following requirements:

  • Complete and submit all necessary Federal and Provincial PNP forms and supplemental documents
  • Apply to the CIC for verification of a work permit for the PEI based business that the applicant expects to invest or manage
  •  Achieve a high-school education or equivalent
  • Must have legally attained a minimum authorized personal net worth of $600,000 through legitimate sources in their own right
  •  Acquired relevant and transferable management skills from past employment
  • Score a minimum band score of 4.0 on the IELTS within the past 2 years
  • Demonstrate a comprehensive business proposal of a business in an eligible sector and meets all program conditions set at the time of the application
  • Must participate actively in the management of the business within PEI at a continuous basis
  • Sign a Performance Agreement that includes specifications of the business investment that are required in order to continue with the nomination
  • Invest a minimum of $150,000 in a new or current PEI based business while abiding to the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act
